MACK #39: James Brown

Now, normally you’d see the title of this particular episode and think to yourself “Ah, Dave is going to go in-depth about James Brown and his music.”

And perhaps you’d be right if it weren’t for an absolutely-draw-droppingly-explosive investigative piece done by Thomas Lake for CNN.

In his article, LOST IN THE WOODS WITH JAMES BROWN’S GHOST — THE CIRCUS SINGER AND THE GODFATHER OF SOUL, Lake presents the facts surrounding James Brown, his death, the death of his third wife and others associated with the James Brown “Machine.”

If you have not yet read this article, we both cannot recommend it enough.

It is amazing, it is infuriating, it will make you question everything you think you know about the music business.

And just as a side note, I mention briefly how CNN used one of James Brown’s funeral photos for the article. It just seemed disrespectful for me to even have pictures like these taken. When I went to put together the picture that accompanies this podcast not only did I find more of these types of pictures from James’ funeral but there were photos of people POSING with James’ body. One of those people was Reverend Al. What a fucking ghoul that monsters is. Then there is also a shot of 4 or 5 fellas standing in front of the casket smiling. What the fuck is wrong with these people?

Anyhoooo, I hope you enjoy the show!
